The Chaplet of The Holy Spirit

The Chaplet of The Holy Spirit

Introduction

This prayer is known to be recited when difficult decisions are to be made or when an urgent favour is required. The Holy Spirit is known to bestow the gift of wisdom on us. This powerful chaplet helps us meditate on the seven mysteries and implore God’s wisdom in our ordinary lives. The significance of this chaplet and the beauty of its power lies in each mystery that is said with faith.

The first mystery glorifies the existence of the trinity and the fact that the unity of the trinity is pure love in itself. The second mystery adores the sanctification of Mary in her Immaculate Conception while bestowing her with the fullness of grace. The third mystery honours the operation of the Holy Spirit in the incarnation of God’s divine son namely Jesus. The fourth mystery honours the operation of the Holy Spirit in the formation of the church and the fifth, sixth and seventh honours the operation of the Holy Spirit in dwelling as well as assisting the church, helping in the formation of other important Church ministers and formation of Saints respectively.

As meaningful and divine as this is, I recommend reciting this chaplet whenever you seek the Holy Spirits’ guidance whether during important/urgent needs or even otherwise when you need strength from the Holy Spirit on any given day.

Elements of the Chaplet of The Holy Spirit

The sign of the cross:

In the name of The Father & of The Son & of The Holy Spirit. AMEN

I Believe:

I believe in God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The Holy Catholic Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Holy Spirit Rosary:

For each of the following mysteries, say one decade as shown below. There are a total of 7 mysteries for 7 decades of the complete Holy Spirit Rosary.

The Mysteries of the Holy Spirit Rosary:

1st Mystery: Let us honour the Holy Spirit and adore Him who is Love Itself, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and uniting them in infinite and eternal love.

2nd Mystery: Let us honour the operation of the Holy Spirit and adore Him in the Immaculate Conception of Mary, sanctifying her, from the first moment with the fullness of grace.

3rd Mystery: Let us honour the operation of the Holy Spirit and adore Him in the Incarnation of the Word, the Son of God by His Divine nature, and the Son of the Virgin by the flesh.

4th Mystery: Let us honour the operation of the Holy Spirit and adore Him in the formation of the Church on the glorious day of Pentecost.

5th Mystery: Let us honour the operation of the Holy Spirit and adore Him dwelling in the Church and assisting her faithfully according to the Divine promise, even to the consummation of the world.

6th Mystery: Let us honour the wonderful operation of the Holy Spirit within the Church creating other Christs, the Priests, and bestowing the fullness of the Priesthood on the Bishops.

7th Mystery: Let us honour the operation of the Holy Spirit, the adorable Sanctifier, and adore Him in His hidden and marvellous work of the formation of saints in the Church.

To recite each Decade: (There are a Total of 7 Decades, 7 mysteries for each) Said like a normal rosary with the following words:

Say –   Let us pray the ___ Mystery : Let us honour….

Then go on to recite the following in the same order as shown here – 1 Our Father + 1 Father, Father…. + 10 Come, Holy Spirit… + 1 Send forth Thy… Then say the ‘Let us pray’ after each decade of a mystery

The Our Father

(Person): Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; On earth, as it is in heaven.

(All): Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil.

Person: Father, Father, send us the promised Paraclete;

All: through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Person: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful;

All: And kindle in them the fire of Thy Love. (x10)

Person:  Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created;

All: And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

All: ‘Let us pray’: O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of Thy faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us by the same Spirit to be truly wise and evermore to rejoice in his consolation through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Conclude the Rosary with The Hail Holy Queen

Hail! Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, Oh most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the Blessed Fruit of Thy Womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! [Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.]

Practices:

  • Recite the Little Chaplet of the Holy Spirit often, especially on Sunday, even every day.
  • Recite it: when some important decision must be made and when special help is needed; every day during recollections and retreats; as a preparation for the Feast of Pentecost.
  • This simple and beautiful Chaplet must become a familiar practice and one of our great Catholic devotions: We must have enlightened piety. The Blessed Virgin, Queen of Apostles and of the Cenacle, will bless you. You will thus win her Heart “full of grace”, for she is the masterpiece of the Holy Spirit’s operation. In your devotions, always keep in mind the essential. The first of all devotions must be to the Blessed Trinity, which of necessity includes the Holy Spirit.
