Devotion to Saint Anthony of Padua
This post is to bring about awareness about miracles sought through the intercession of Saint Anthony of Padua. Tuesday is the day of Saint Anthony and the feast of St. Anthony world over is celebrated on June 13th. If possible, you can pray to him every Tuesday. For a particular favour, most people do the 13 Tuesday devotion to St. Anthony.
“Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church on 16 January 1946. He is also the patron saint of lost things.”

How did I find St. Anthony?
St. Anthony is well known as a miracle performer and there are so many miracles that are credited to his intercession. Let me tell you my story of devotion to St. Anthony. A few years ago, when I was in college, I lived in a hostel with a room-mate who created havoc in my life during my first year at college. As if the trauma of being away from home wasn’t bad enough, this additional burden of deceit and lies made me sick physically and mentally because she would always succeed in twisting the truth and make it look like I was insane. I was too naive at the time and would believe her again and again. She stole a lot of my belongings, to worsen matters she’d speak behind my back and yet made me believe that I was imagining things. It was difficult for me to accept what she was, I’d refuse to believe the truth but I was losing my mind in the process. There are some who believed her and never found out the truth of who she was because she was convincing. She was too caught up in the evil things she would do but played victim to all she met and everyone believed her story! My parents were desperate and distraught since I was far away from home and almost on the brink of depression. It was during those helpless moments that some God-sent well-wisher urged my dad and mom to pray to St. Anthony and that’s when everything changed for good! I may have lost a lot of potential friends at that time because of her lies, there were many who never knew my truth. Over time though, I slowly learned that it was okay to let things be the way they were and just find my peace. I had to trust what God showed me soon afterwards. I found my faith and my belief in miracles began during that time. All those people who mattered to me stayed with me. Some of my friends have also witnessed miracles in their own lives attributed to the intercession of St. Anthony. My family has seen countless miracles being performed from the moment I was delivered from the agonizing clutches of the deceitful roommate (who later on went to ask for forgiveness and also confess about some of the major things she stole from me while we were roommates!) to finding my dream job and even my husband! St. Anthony has prayed for us and asked God to answer every single prayer we asked through him. Through his intercession, we’ve even found our cat who was lost for one whole day. No matter how small you think your prayer is, ask Saint Anthony with all your heart, I promise he will pray for you.
Although he is the patron saint of lost things, he is known to answer a lot of other prayers. Some pray to him for protection from storms at sea or to find a good life partner for which I can vouch. St. Anthony symbolically holds the white lily attributed to his purity and so also, he holds little Jesus in his arms because he was known for his deep devotion to Infant Jesus. I have included below the prayer we use to pray to him, though you will find several other common prayers. I have included at the end a poem written by the saint himself and also a miraculous responsory that is my absolute favourite!

MOST EFFICACIOUS PRAYER TO ST. ANTHONY
O Holy St Anthony, the gentlest and kindest of Saints, your burning love of God, your exalted virtue, and your great charity towards your fellow creatures, made you worthy, when on earth to possess miraculous powers such as were given to no other saint. Miracles waited on your word, and that word you were ever ready to speak at the request of those in trouble. The anxious prayer of bitter trial was never addressed to you in vain. To the sick you gave back health; you restored what was lost; the sorrow stricken were the objects of your tender compassion; even the dead you raised to life when the wounded heart cried out to you from the depths of its bitter anguish. When on earth nothing was impossible with you, except not to have compassion on those in distress and sorrow.
Encouraged by this thought, and convinced of the efficacy of your holy intercession, we kneel before your holy image, and full of confidence, we implore you to obtain for us (mention your request here). The answer to this our prayer may require a miracle. Even so, are you not the Saint of Miracles, who, when on earth, had but to speak the mightiest wonders were wrought! O gentle and loving St Anthony, you whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper our prayer into the ears of the Infant Jesus, who loved to linger in your arms. One word from you and our prayer will be granted. O, speak but that word and the gratitude of our heart will ever be yours! Amen.

Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone,
To have a deep soul relationship with another,

But God, to a Christian, says,

With being loved by Me alone,

With having an intensely personal and unique relationship
With Me alone.
Discovering that only in Me is your satisfaction to be found,
Will you be capable of the perfect human relationship
That I have planned for you.
You will never be united with another until you are united With Me alone,
Exclusive of anyone or anything else,
Exclusive of any other desires or longings.I want you to stop planning,
Stop wishing,
And allow Me to give you the most thrilling plan existing,
One that you cannot imagine.
Please allow Me to bring it to you.
You just keep watching Me, expecting the greatest things.
Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I Am.
Keep listening and learning the things I tell you.
You just wait.
That’s all.
Don’t be anxious.
Don’t worry.
Don’t look at the things you think you want;
You just keep looking off and away up to Me,
Or you’ll miss what I want to show you.
And then when you are ready,
I’ll surprise you with a love far more wonderful than any
You could dream of.
You see, until you are ready and until
The one I have for you is ready
(I am working even at this moment to have you both ready at the same time),
Until you are both satisfied exclusively with Me
And the life I prepared for you,
You won’t be able to experience the love that
Exemplified your relationship with Me.

Most loving protector, great St. Anthony, I hasten to thank you. Full of appreciation and profound gratitude I acknowledge the favours you have secured for me in reply to my prayers and those of our Franciscan missionaries. Because you answered my petitions and all those the children of the missions offered for my intentions, I rejoice in your power with God and your unfailing goodness to your brothers in Christ. May you ever be honoured and blessed, most powerful wonder-worker of Padua! May your merits and favours remain an unending hymn of praise to the Most Holy Trinity, and to our blessed Lady, Queen of Heaven.
